
Shot in the Arm for Training Academy as HVM Catapult Director Visits JES Group’s Skills Academy in Port Talbot

Port Talbot continues to lead the way in industrial innovation as Jacqui Murray, the newly appointed Director of the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult for South Wales and Ben Rackham, Innovations Manager, visited JES Group Ltd and their state-of-the-art centre of excellence welding training school, The Skills Academy.

JES Group Ltd, a multifaceted Mechanical Engineering company specialising in precision welding and fabrication, showcased their advanced welding techniques, including TIG, MIG and submerged arc welding, which are critical for the steel industry and others including nuclear, aerospace, marine and heavy engineering.
Their Skills Academy is at the forefront of training the next generation of welders, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge methods to meet the demands of modern manufacturing.

Jacqui Murray emphasised the importance of this collaboration, saying:

"Welding might seem traditional, but the innovation here at JES Group transforms it into a high-tech art form. By combining precision techniques with advanced manufacturing technologies, The Skills Academy is empowering South Wales to lead the way in global supply chains and net-zero manufacturing."

This visit comes on the heels of the opening of HVM Catapult Baglan’s digital factory hub at the Bay Technology Centre, which is set to supercharge innovation in Welsh manufacturing. By driving adoption of digital technologies, fostering partnerships, and supporting businesses like JES Group, HVM Catapult is ensuring South Wales remains at the cutting edge of advanced manufacturing.
