To ensure its own corporate resilience and to provide its apprentices with the highest standard of instruction the JES Skills Academy was set up in 2023. Its objective was to guarantee that on completion of their training, all of their apprentices were work ready and fit for immediate employment. The Academy has radically furthered its ambitions and is now a Centre of Excellence for all of south west Wales dedicated to providing high-quality education and skills development in the field of welding. 

The Academy is committed to equipping individuals from school pupils seeking career pathways, to already qualified welders looking to further upskill, with the knowledge, practical expertise, high-quality education and skills development needed to excel in the welding industry.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Welding Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of welders by delivering comprehensive training programs. Your expertise in welding techniques, safety protocols, and industry best practices will be crucial in ensuring that our students receive top-notch instruction and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth welding classes, covering a range of techniques, materials, and processes.

  • Develop and update curriculum materials to align with industry standards and advancements.

  • Provide hands-on training, demonstrations, and practical exercises to enhance students' skills.

  • Assess and evaluate students' performance, providing constructive feedback for improvement.

  • Collaborate with the curriculum development team to enhance training materials and programs.

  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and safety regulations.

  • Mentor and support junior instructors, fostering a collaborative and dynamic teaching environment.

  • Maintain a safe and organised welding training facility, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

  • Participate in industry events, workshops, and conferences to stay connected with the welding community.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, addressing their needs and concerns.

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must of held previous qualifications and extensive experience in BS EN ISO 9606 and ASME 9 in all weld processes.       

  • A Minimum of ten years practical weld experience.

  • Proven experience in instructional design and curriculum development.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to create an engaging and effective learning environment.

  • Commitment to safety and the ability to instil safety consciousness in students.

  • Teaching or training experience, preferably in a vocational or technical education setting.

  • Continuous learning mindset and willingness to adapt to industry changes.

Education:

  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Welding and fabrication, Mechanical Engineering.                             

  • IOSH or above.                                                                    

  • Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)                                            

  • RWC – Responsible Welding Coordinator Course
