To ensure its own corporate resilience and to provide its apprentices with the highest standard of instruction the JES Skills Academy was set up in 2023. Its objective was to guarantee that on completion of their training, all of their apprentices were work ready and fit for immediate employment. The Academy has radically furthered its ambitions and is now a Centre of Excellence for all of south west Wales dedicated to providing high-quality education and skills development in the field of welding. 

The Academy is committed to equipping individuals from school pupils seeking career pathways, to already qualified welders looking to further upskill, with the knowledge, practical expertise, high-quality education and skills development needed to excel in the welding industry.

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Schools Liaison Training Officer (SLTO) to join our team and contribute to the growth of our academy which is a unique Centre of Excellence for the development of welding and fabrication skills in South Wales.

The SLTO will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of welders and fabricators by helping to structure, fashion and deliver comprehensive training programs for schools across Neath Port Talbot that help aid the industry recruitment process. Expertise in welding techniques, safety protocols and industry best practices, alongside a comprehensive teaching background, will be crucial in ensuring that school pupils receive first class instruction, hands-on experience, insight and exposure to career pathways and job opportunities in the Mechanical Engineering Industry.

Using the latest interactive and immersive technologies including Augmented Reality equipment and an enterprise class online learning platform, the chosen candidate will deliver face-2-face and remote learning in a safe, non-hazardous environment. In doing so, the role will ensure that welding is promoted as an attractive, well paid, rewarding career with numerous opportunities in Neath Port Talbot, the larger Celtic Freeport area  and throughout the UK.

Responsibilities:

Schools Liaison:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local schools, colleges, and educational institutions to promote awareness of the Welding Skills Academy and its unique brand of training.

  • Organise and conduct outreach activities, including presentations, workshops, and career fairs, to engage and inform students about the opportunities available in welding apprenticeship programs.

Training Delivery:

  • Deliver engaging and informative sessions on welding apprenticeship training to school groups and potential candidates.

  • Organise and Deliver Easter and Summer Holiday Welding Boot Camps for school groups.

  • Collaborate with and help lead the training team to develop and enhance training materials for school outreach programs.

  • Provide guidance and support to prospective students interested in enrolling in welding apprenticeship programs.

 

Admissions Support:

  • Assist in the admissions process by providing information to prospective students and guiding them through the application process.

  • Collaborate with the admissions team to ensure a smooth transition for students from schools to the Welding Skills Academy.

 

Events Coordination:

  • Coordinate and participate in events, open houses, and information sessions to showcase the Welding Skills Academy to the community.

  • Represent the academy at relevant industry events and conferences to promote welding education.

 

Qualifications:

  • A background in welding and fabrication with practical experience in the field.

  • Experience in delivering welding and fabrication apprenticeship training.

  • Hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

  • Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) Level 3

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with schools, students, and educational partners.

  • Excellent organisational and event coordination skills.
